Privacy policy
Last updated 26 October 2026 · Gript Technologies LLC
- Vamos has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- Your progress, settings and saved phrases stay on your iPhone.
- Lessons, flashcards and walking tours never send your voice, photos or location anywhere.
- Only Talk with a local sends something off the phone: the text of the conversation, so an AI character can answer. It isn't stored.
Vamos is made by Gript Technologies LLC ("we", "us"), which is responsible for the information described in this policy. Our address is Gript Technologies LLC, 5540 Centerview Dr Ste 204, Raleigh, NC 27606, United States. This policy explains how the Vamos iPhone app ("Vamos") handles it. If you have a question, write to [email protected].
Information that stays on your iPhone
Vamos stores the following only on your device, in the app's own storage. We never receive it, and it is deleted when you delete the app.
- Your course progress, review schedule, streak, XP, badges and favourites.
- Settings such as the language you speak, your trip date and reminder time.
- Walking tour visits and phrases you save.
- Photos of tour sights downloaded from Wikimedia Commons, cached for offline use.
Reminders and trip countdowns are local notifications scheduled on your iPhone. No push notification service is used.
Permissions Vamos asks for
| Permission | What it's for | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone | Saying Spanish phrases in exercises and tour challenges, and speaking in Talk with a local. | Audio is processed on your iPhone and never recorded or stored by Vamos. |
| Speech recognition | Turning what you say into text to check it, and to answer you in conversations. | On your iPhone, using Apple's Spanish dictation or the Spanish speech model you can download in the app. In Talk with a local only, if Spanish speech isn't available on your iPhone, Apple's online speech recognition service is used instead, as with dictation. That audio is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. Lessons and tours never use the online service. |
| Location (while using the app) | During a walking tour, noticing when you reach a stop, showing the nearest city's tours, and narrowing down sights for Snap a sight. | Stays on your iPhone. Vamos never sends or stores your location. |
| Camera | Snap a sight: taking a photo of a landmark so Vamos can tell you what it is. | The photo is matched on your iPhone and is never uploaded or kept. |
You can change any of these in the iPhone's Settings app at any time. Vamos works without them; only the related feature stops.
Talk with a local (AI conversations)
Talk with a local is a spoken role-play with an AI character. Before your first conversation the app explains what is shared and asks you to agree. When you take a turn:
- Your iPhone turns your voice into text (see Speech recognition above). Your audio is never sent to Vamos's server.
- The app sends the text of the conversation so far, the scene you chose, the pace and the language you speak to Vamos's conversation server, which runs on Cloudflare.
- The server asks Anthropic (Claude) for the character's reply, translation, correction and hints, and ElevenLabs to turn the reply into speech. They receive the conversation text and the reply text, but no name, account, device identifier or location.
- The reply and its audio are sent back to your iPhone and shown and played there. They are not saved after the conversation ends.
What the server keeps. Vamos's server does not log or store conversations. To enforce the monthly limit it keeps one number, how many turns were used this month, filed under your subscription's App Store transaction ID (or, for TestFlight testers, the app installation's ID). That count is deleted automatically after about 40 days.
Our providers. Anthropic and ElevenLabs process the text only to produce the reply and its voice, under their API terms and privacy policies linked above. Vamos does not use your conversations to train AI models. Please don't share personal details, such as your full name, address or health information, in a conversation.
Checking your subscription. To confirm you have an active subscription, the app sends Apple's signed proof of purchase to the server, which verifies Apple's signature. It does not contain your name, email or payment details.
Purchases and subscriptions
Walking tour purchases and the Talk with a local subscription are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details, name or Apple Account. Apple's handling of purchases is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
Photos of sights
When you open a tour stop, or choose to download photos for offline use, the app fetches the sight's photos and their credits from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. As with visiting any website, those servers see your IP address. See the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy.
What we don't do
- No user accounts or sign-in.
- No advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. Vamos uses no third-party code in the app.
- No tracking across apps or websites, and no selling or sharing of data for advertising.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or tracking. It is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which, like any web host, processes your IP address to deliver the pages.
Children
Vamos is a general audience app and is not directed at children under 13. Talk with a local should not be used to share personal information.
Your rights
Because almost everything stays on your iPhone, you control it: deleting the app deletes your data. The only information we hold is the anonymous monthly turn count described above, which expires on its own. If you live in the EU, UK or another region with data protection rights, you can ask us about, or ask us to delete, any information related to you by writing to [email protected], or by post to Gript Technologies LLC, 5540 Centerview Dr Ste 204, Raleigh, NC 27606, United States. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above, and the app will ask for your agreement again before a conversation if what's shared changes.
